The Highbury Library animted promo v5 350x350

With our strongest available back four and a midfield only really missing Gilberto you would have expected a better team display than the one on Saturday.

Arsenal were carved apart on a regular basis by a more determined and more committed Liverpool side. I personally think that Arsene approached the game wrongly. I was hoping for a 4-5-1 formation with Adebayor upfront on his own. Rosicky starting wide left and a central three of Diaby, Denilson and Cesc Fabregas with either Hleb or Ljungberg on the right.

This side would have been alot more compact and the midfield would have been able to support Adebayor on the counter attack

Instead Wenger stuck Diaby out on the left wing. Not quite sure what his thinking was in doing that but its fair to say it didn't work. When Diaby came back from injury he played wide left and I thought this was to protect him from too much contact. We were unbalanced against Liverpool and did not create many chances. This is not strange as Liverpool are strong at home but what got me was the amount of space and time Liverpool had on the ball.

There was far to much space between midfield and defence, We were also very narrow. Oh and not forgetting, Baptista was shit!

Arsenal played fantastically well in the FA Cup. We were compact and defended as a team. I wrote at the time that it was one of my most enjoyable matches this season. Purely because we were spot on tactically. It was the complete opposite this time. The midfield were miles apart from the back four and offered hardly any protection. Crouch caused us many problems throughout the game but he would not of been allowed to if we had five across the midfield and if the players thought about closing Liverpool players down.

We missed Gilberto in the holding role, but who do we have to replace him when he is not there? Diaby, Cesc and Denilson all need to play with a Gilberto type player. I wonder what Wenger sees at the future central midfield partnership.

Once again Julio Baptista showed that he should not be a Gooner next season. You can forgive him for missing our best chance of the game although it was truly woeful. But his overall play is just a complete mess. Its like some just chose the big guy in the playground and hoped he could play, well he can't!

I have alot of faith in our manager and would not like to replace him with anyone in the world but things have got to change. Mentally and tactically.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
