When Thierry came out and said that he would have to wear a T-shirt saying that he is not going anywhere I was kinda hoping that would put an end to anymore speculation regarding Barcelona or any other bloody club to be honest.
As long as Henry was saying that he was staying then it didn't matter what any manager, president, tabloid or tea lady were shouting about. As long as Henry and Wenger said that he was committed to Arsenal then it was not a problem.
But recent comments from Henry has made me think that there is some truth to the speculation flying around. First of all Joan Laporta came out and said that he 'was' going to sign Henry and that they were in advanced talks, I brushed that off as bollocks. Just a man with a big mouth. But now our captain was quoted as saying "For now I'm an Arsenal player." Henry was responding to a question, during a promotional tour in Beijing, about suggestions he may leave for Barcelona.
That does not sound like someone who knows what is happening about their future. That does not sound like someone committed to being Arsenal captain. Does it?
The talk is that Eto'o will be part of the deal, along with about 17mil which is probably nonsense. I don't imagine Barcelona giving us that much money as well as a proven International goalscorer, who is also younger.
I want Thierry Henry to stay, because when fit I think he is the best striker in world football, bar none. But there would be benefits to the Henry-Eto'o swap deal if it was going to happen.
Firstly we would have someone who only wanted to score goals. We know that Henry likes to drift and join the link up play with Cesc, Rosicky, Hleb etc Eto'o is a penalty box striker and would have finished a large percentage of our missed chances last season. But hey, I won't go into all that until something is confirmed. But as I said, I would not want anyone other than Thierry Henry upfront leading the line.
On other news, I would like to say thank you to Mart Poom for being a good professional and helping the youngsters in the reserves, good luck at Watford. And to the big baps man, I know I slagged you off but it was honestly tongue in cheek, good luck to you once you are shipped off from Real Madrid to somewhere else.
Right, thats it for now. I'll write something when some more news comes our way. Oh I hope Wenger doesn't make Cesc captain if Henry leaves. We all know what happens to Arsenal captains these days.
