The transfer window slammed shut on Thursday 31st of August at 11pm with some key deadline day purchases at Arsenal. We had 5 shining new players coming into the club in 3 days to add to 4 that were bought earlier in the summer.
I would be shocked to hear people/supporters question the signings made. Wenger in my opinion was absolutely brilliant in this transfer window. Majority of the Players who have come in have come with a huge degree of experience which is what we have lacked for the past few seasons.
I admit we haven't replaced Cesc and Nasri with the “super super quality” we were all dreaming about but one clear fact is that we have beefed up the squad with players that are willing to prove a point.
The players that have come in are;
Carl Jenkinson
Gervinho
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Joel Campbell
Park Chu Young
Andre Santos
Per Mertesacker
Benayoun
Mikel Arteta
Out of this list only one player(Campbell) went out on loan for failure to get a work permit which in the long run would be good for him and the Arsenal. The remaining eight are either experienced and ready for the battle at hand or full of potential.
I have heard and read a lot of ex footballers, pundits, journalists criticise Wenger for not stumping the cash for Cahill rather than going for a cheap alternative in Per Mertesacker. I see no reason why anyone would fault Wenger's judgement on this one. Mertesacker has a wealth of experience which Cahill can only dream of. He has won the Uefa Cup with Werder Bremen, competed in the Champions League and represented his country at the highest level. He has 75 caps for his country, Played 147 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen scoring 12 times. There has also been lots of talk about his pace, which I know he lacks but he makes up for it with his positional sense and clever interventions plus he is also good aerially. I also know lots of Centre Backs that have limited pace e.g Terry, Vidic, Carragher, Samba and even the much talked about Cahill. Wenger though, has to thinker with our formation/high line to get the best out of Mertesacker.
My biggest concern is who partners Vermaelen. I'm a big fan of Koscielny and he has formed a wonderful understanding with my Vermaelen but I see Wenger going with the duo of Mertesacker and Vermaelen. One positive about the arrival of Mertesacker is that we see less of Squillaci.
Another player who I'm glad we got is Mikel Arteta, I know he doesn't come close to Cesc in talent but truth be told nobody comes close to Cesc in today's market. What Arteta brings to table is a wealth of Premiership experience, he has made 174 appearances in the Premiership, scoring 28 goals. He is a very technical player, can pick a pass, scores free-kicks and he has a good cross. He comes into the team at the very right age(29yrs) and reduces the creative burden heaped on the shoulders of Wilshere and Ramsey after the sale of our former number 4 and Nasri.
I know we are not as talented as last season mainly because of departures of Cesc and Nasri but we have a stronger bunch of players who are experienced and hungry with a point to prove.
Our season kicks up properly against Swansea at The Emirates, a win at home which is a must would definitely erase the bad memories...... I really can not wait.

I agree to most of what u said but I disagree with not as good skilful wise we have lost fab one of the best midfield players around he will be mist but nasri will not b4 last year and only 4months of it he found it vary hard to get a game he is good but ent like fab I think we have players who as good as nasri in wilshere and geveno and I beleve they are stronger than last year better back line stronger midfield due2 more players to come in when they get injurys and better up front

02-Sep-2011 12:30 | | Phil C - Of course we're better than last season
Szczezny will be more confidant and experienced than last year.
The back four are considerably better due to the to the introduction of Mertesackracker and Santos, Jenkinson is an able back up and will improve too.
Woth Frimpong returning from injury we have reasonable cover at DM.
While it might be argued that Arteta isn't as good as Fab it is also true that Fab wasn't playing to his potential last year. Benayoun will be a terrific impact player for us and Ramsey will only get better for playing with players with their technical skill. I think both of them are as technically gifted as Fab but lack his vision maybe. The forward lie is vastly better than last year both in terms of talent and depth. I think we will start to see Walcott playing more down the middle now that we have players who are more capable of playing out wide - Gervinho, Oxo and Miyaichi. Park is also capable of giving us a solid presence up front when we need one. We will create chances and have more capability to score right through the team.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season and just hope our negative fans don't turn out to be the weak link.

I agree with you on fact that we have a better and stronger squad this time but I strongly disagree with you on your claim that Wenger was brilliant in this window. I still dont understand why he waited for that humiliation before he started taking rational decisions.
In fact I Man United is the club I hate most but Fergie deserves all the credit for that humiliation which eventually compelled Wenger and the board to start being serious in this window.
I also disagree with you on the claim that Arteta is not as good as Fab, We all know that Fab was an average players like arteta when he signed for arsenal. I foresee a more matured and fighting Spanish midfielder who can drop deep to the defense when we are under pressure. I see Arteta to b slightly better than Fab after this season. The style of play at Everton did not suit him that is why he only showed little flashes of Cesc -like type of midfielders over there but he is a real Spanish player with an arsenal style of play just like Fab and I believe he could even be better. He also excellent at set pieces
If we have players like Arteta, Song, Wilshere and Rosicky in our central midfield with Gervinho, Theo Walcott, Park and Frimpong, Ramsey ,Yossi,Arshavin, Chamberlain and Ryo acting as back up players then I believe our strikers in the shape of Van Persie and Chamack should be able to score at least 3 goals on a bad day and at leas 6 on a good day. I Believe they will prove me right against Swansea.
Also believe that with the inclusion of Per and Santos in our defense We should expect between more clean sheet, at least 15 will be enough to guarantee us the premier league and possibly the Champions league trophy.
I do agree with that Wenger should choose Per over Kos in our central defense. Per is more experienced and has the aerial supremacy over Kos. Kos is an excellent player and could be shifted to the defensive midfield position in the absence of Song and Frimpong. Now I can confidently say that any club that has players like TV5, Kos/Per, Sagna, Santos with Szczezny in post can finish the with the highest number of clean sheet and unbeaten.
Gooners a new dawn has driven our darkest moment away so lets forget about that humiliation and start with Swansea, lets all rally behind the team and support them wholeheartedly. I am very optimistic they will give us a major trophy this season
To Arteta, Yossi,Per and Pack all I can say is AYEKOO to the only soccer university.
