My Vision
Written by Mean Lean on Friday, 19 November 2010 14:37
I am really looking forward to the north London derby tomorrow lunch time, I am excited and obviously nervous about the day. It always means so much to both sets of supporters and in their case it is their cup final. This will probably be the last time in many years where both teams are Champions League sides as our inferiors struggle to cope with life in the big league.
The dragging the rivalry to one side for brief moment, this game should make for an attacking game with many creative attackers on show. Van Der Vaart should come in contact with Alex Song quite a few times during the 90 minutes and if Robin had his way, he would have been playing alongside him.
Robin Van Persie has spoken about his talks with Wenger in trying to persuade our manager to fork out the necessary cash to bring the impressive attacking Dutch midfielder to the Emirates. His performances so far for our little neighbours have showed that he would have been able to make a name for himself at Arsenal but this only tells part of the story. Although Jack Wilshere may well be a naughty boy, he is 18 years of age and his only progressing because he has been given a chance.
Van Der Vaart is 27 years of age and would have prevented Wilshere from first team opportunities. I am willing to put my neck on the line and say that I expect Wilshere to become head and shoulders above van der Vaart by the time he is in his early twenties.
As Wenger would say, Van der Vaart would have killed Jack Wilshere but I believe that Arsenal will have many top years from Wilshere and that can only happen if a path is clear for Jack to play football at Arsenal in the domestic league and in European football. Of course it will be down to Wilshere as to how much he can progress. He has been back in the headlines again for the wrong reasons and he will have to correct his off field antics, much of that comes with age.
He will be fit enough to be back in the squad for tomorrow's game, Arsene Wenger will decide whether to choose Denilson or Wilshere in our engine room.
Nicklas Bendtner has back tracked on his recent public comments about wanting to start all the games for Arsenal admitting that his team mates have been playing well and scoring goals in his absence. You have to wonder about Arsene Wenger's power of persuasion. I am thinking that Derren Brown has been working alongside Arsene at London Colny.
Wenger has said that Bendtner and Van Persie are 95% fit and are close to starting games. In his press conference he didn't want to give away any information as to who would be starting up front.
He did give a slight indication when he stated that Chamakh is very difficult to leave out due to his work rate and form in recent games. I would love to see a fit and sharp Robin Van Persie dragging the ball away from the dangling leg of William Gallas followed by a curling left foot shot into the top corner then Cesc jumping on the pumping fist of our number 10 *sigh* wouldn't that be a treat?
Anyway it is very likely that Chamakh will continue to work the line and take over from Robert Pires and Emmanuel Adebayor as their new tormentor in-Chief.
Arsene wants to our supporters to show respect to Gallas tomorrow afternoon but I cannot see that happening for one moment. To be honest I couldn't care less about Gallas. In fact I think the booing from the Arsenal support will only give him extra incentive to do well. He looks out of form and out of sorts, I would rather we played against that than an adrenaline fuelled version which would be closer to the version who played so well last season for us.
I would love to see Gallas try and deal with Chamakh in the air though, if we can swing in enough crosses into Chamakh then that could be quite fun.
Anyway, more on the match tomorrow with some early pre match thoughts.
Back tomorrow.

19-Nov-2010 14:59 | | Audi - Nasri
I hope Nasri starts on the right. Arshavin played 90 mins in midweek and could be left on the bench; if that happens, I hope wenger doesn't opt to play Theo and move Nasri to the left because the former has formed a very good partnernship with Sagna. If anything, I'd start Arshavin and take him off when the inevitable happens and he starts giving the ball away cheaply.

Even though Nasri played the whole 90 minutes on Wednesday, I think he has to start. He is pretty much our best offensive player on current form. I would personally start with Rosicky on the left, Nasri on the right and Chamakh up top.
Arshavin can always come on and make an impact as with Theo.
Whichever team Wenger selects, it is likely to be a strong team.

Great read once again ML.
Can't just wait to get this derby over and done with. 3 pts would be a massive boost and will definately send a message to the rest of our rivals.
Agree with you on the booing of Mr. Gallas, I'll rather the fans not boo him and concentrate on our teams performance and cheer them on to victory.
The midfield selection will be difficult for Wenger tomorrow but as for me, I would leave Wilshere on the bench and start with a midfield 3 of Cesc, Nasri and Song to create space for RVP in the attacking 3.

That is a somewhat dreamy and offensively aggressive midfield. Would love to see that trio in action but would fear the defensive side of both Nasri and Cesc in the middle. I suppose it would be Cesc to drop into the midfield two and Nasri pushed further forward.
I do hope we see that at some point though. Imagine the attacking options and passing triangles we would have with Nasri, Cesc, Rosicky, Arshavin and perhaps RVP in the same side?
Barca eat your heart out me thinks.

I m very happy that my country men(Indian) are owning a PL team although I don't like the team they are going to own. Also Arsene has said that its important to have Asian players at Arsenal so,I really hope to see more Asian players in the coming years at my beloved Arsenal

For the NLD I think Nasri and TR7 should start with Theo and arsh on the bench.Up front if RVP is fully fit he should start or else it has to be Chamakh and Not NikkiB

I wanted us to sign VdV. I've wanted it for 4 consecutive seasons. He's an Arsenal player. And he's an Arsenal fan of sorts.....he likes the kind of football we play. Would he have killed Jack Willy? Dunno. Jack Willy wasn't ready 4 years ago.
I'm annoyed seeing him play for Spurs.
Everyone has that player, right? The player you wanted on your side who ends up playing for the team you hate.
Let's hope we leave him humiliated tomorrow.

I'd love to see Gallas score! Score an own-goal you c***!
Then the fans could cheer him.

That's the whole idea. Better we start with a very offensive line up and gain ground on them. Restrictin' Song's forward movement would be key so replacin' Nasri with Wilshere will act to stop that.
Nasri and Cesc will have to put on shifts to help Song out in midfield. Those 3 will do very well if the play together tomorrow.

VDV could have been a big player for us, especially in his current form would add goals to midfield as well but can you play Cesc and him together? I suppose you find a system to fit them both in.
The player I wanted in our team was Ronaldo, although his selfish ways wouldn't really suit Wengerball.
I am over him now but during his Manc days I must admit I was feeling rather jealous of his impact.

Nervous and excited yet claim to be facing an inferior team.
You are moron. van der Vaart is actual class and is in his prime. Jack Wilshere is potential who tends to get bullied away from home. The fact that you'd rather have potential than class shows what a nursery club Arsenal have become under Wenger.
Is it any wonder why fergie gets on so well with Wenger these days. You are hardly a threat. You start the season well every year but tail off because of players like Wilshere running out of steam.

Steven, last season showed Gooners that giant killings do happen your first league victory against us in many years so yeah I am nervy.
So how does it feel to have spent so much over the years and still be miles behind this 'nursery club' who can go top on Saturday?

@Bala I actually thought you are Nigerian! I will also like Asians to be playing footy in the EPL not only at the Royal Arsenal. But it seems to me that it's only Chopra that is Asian in EPL. What happened to the rest?

we are crap at right back , we are crap in the air at the back, our keeper is crap , we have an injured forward who is no use to us 6 months of the year , and now our manager is making himself look a fool...
Personally i want David Dein back , I want this Russian fool gone and I want the good old Arsenal back with it, watching us lose to them was so painful it was untrue, we all know we were worried as they proved they can do it against Inter , but never did i expect to be so humiliated by that lot..I want changes now ! If Highbury is doing so well and profits are so good why wont we spend ?
