My Vision

Written by Mean Lean on Thursday, 27 January 2011 12:11

So we face Birmingham Shitty in the final of the Carling cup. I was cheering for the Hammers during the game last night and was happy to see them gain a healthy 3-1 agg advantage. West Ham are a clean side who try and get the ball down and play football while their opponents are a bunch of dirty thugs.

Our last encounter at St Andrews was pure filth. I remember feeling a lot of hatred for Alex McLeish after that 90 minutes. I felt as if the 'let them know you are there' was taken to a new level.

We had to deal with

Johnson's follow through on Cesc (a leg breaker if I've ever seen one)
Jerome landing stamp on Koscielny
Bowyer's stamp on Sagna
Ridgewell's fly kick on Walcott

My mind has gone blurry so I cannot remember anymore but there were plenty more. What type of 'football' is that?

We have a busy schedule around the final and I wouldn't mind having our players available for other games and not sat on the treatment table nursing snapped ankles or legs.

I don't want Arsenal to be seen as precious, a club that winge and moan about rough treatment but that is just too far. I am all for sides closing us down and using their strength to their advantage. Fair enough, it is in the rules of the game. But once you cross that line then it just turns into violence.

Cesc could have easily had his leg broken five minutes into the game. Sagna could have had serious damage to his leg.

It is no surprise that Eduardo had his leg broken in Birmingham and then Cesc picked up an injury that pretty much ended his season last year.

This all comes from one man. I am sure it is no coincidence that we face so much foul play when we come up against them. I look at Alex McLeish and I see a disgusting violent man who wants his team to hurt these foreigners at Arsenal. I see a man who takes his team to Old Trafford and pulls out the KY Jelly and hands it out to his team. Not a stud in sight. Isn't this obvious? I can see it, why can't the people in football who can do something about it take action.

Wenger cannot complain about it because he will be called a moaning Frenchman who doesn't like his team being tackled. The likes of Richard Keys and co (I will get onto him later) use it to sneer and snarl behind the TV screens, then all the little lap dogs around the world lap it all up and sing that stupid annoying 'same old Arsenal always cheating song'

Why? Because we are victimised. Call me paranoid, tell me that every fan feels the same way, well not in this case they don't. Chelsea are not the target of foul play because they have a more talented side than Birmingham. Manchester United are not stepped on because they are technically superior to Stoke City.

The whole Sky Sports, Alex Ferguson, Tony Pulis, Rupert Murdoch, Alex McLeish, Peter Reid, Sam Allardyce, refereeing decisions and so on stinks. It really stinks.

But I am just a moaning, whinging Arsenal fan who cannot prove anything.

Are you telling me that Gary Neville chopping down a West Brom player who is clean through has just been missed? Oops ref just made an honest mistake. Are you telling me that Rafael slamming into a Blackpool player clearly off the ball was a misjudgment from the man in charge? Rubbish.

Manchester United are unbeaten because they have worked hard as a team and have had 'luck' on their side. Luck is when you have a shot deflected into the net, it is not banking on the referee to bail them out time and time again.

Ok, I know I am ranting now so while I am in the swing of it, let me clear my soul for today and get it all out.

On Match of the day during the Ipswich game I was listening to the 'experts' have their say on Arsenal. Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and former Ipswich midfielder Matt Holland.

They were telling us that we need a goalkeeper, a good one. And we need a quality center half because the two French ones that Wenger bought are not any good. This is according to Hansen who I am sure has done his research and has watched them in many, many games. Surely he wouldn't make these judgements without doing so, right? Yeah.. well.

Anyway, we are continuously told that we are a fancy team, who are very entertaining, play the best football in the league but we cannot defend to save our lives. If we want to win things like the Mancs then we need a international 'world class' goalkeeper and a top quality center back. Someone like Cahill. Hahaha! Or anyone that is being tipped as world class in the Sun newspaper.

Listen to all the experts, they tell us over and over again how good Vidic is, and make no mistake about it, he is quality. Rio Ferdinand, England captain and great defender. They are the type of partnership that we need to emulate if we want to win trophies.

Because...

Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..
Arsenal haven't won anything for five years..

Repeat until death.

Behind them they have Edwin van Der Sar, top level, experienced keeper who has been there done that worn the fricking T-shirt.

It sounds all great doesn't it? Well how about a little bit of facts to disrupt your annoying, repetitive bile for a moment.

Arsenal have conceded ONE goal more than the Mancs, not only that but we have played Chelsea twice, they have played them zero. We have played Manchester City twice they have another game against them. Basically we have played more of the tough fixtures (on paper anyway) yet we have let in one more goal than they have.

Now why would I expect Hansen, Keys and co to pull that fact out? But couldn't a former Arsenal player do so? Get me on there and I will make them look like utter mugs. I might not get anymore work again but at least my blood pressure could drop a little.

Going back to our lack of trophies in a whopping five years. Are we the only club not to have had success in that time period? Is it because we have massively overspent that we are required to have won something in that time? Hold on, what about our little smelly neighbours? How much have they spent in search of trophies? When did they last win something?

Liverpool, the massive Liverpool who are the biggest club side in England, they have never, ever won the Premier League. Do we hear people banging on about it over and over again? Why not? Imagine if Arsenal and Arsene Wenger had never won the league title? Everton? Aston Villa? Manchester City? All big clubs.

Don't let their recent history of finishing in midtable fool you into thinking that they are not big clubs. They are big clubs who have failed to deliver success. Two clubs who have spent more than anyone else (minus City) have been able to win trophies. But hey, let us not get too much into that because it actually shows the great job that the French manager has been doing at that club that has no English players. Well apart from Walcott, Wilshere, Gibbs and the rest of the upcoming talent they have coming through but Shhhhh, change the subject quickly.

Paranoid? Are you sure? Well, yeah perhaps I am but should I not have any reason to be?

And now to Richard Keys and Andy Gray *sigh* what a pair of utter muppets.

I find the whole saga quite amazing really, amazing that they actually still have that way of thinking in 2010. It just shows how massively ignorant they are but I guess we all knew that already. The thing is, I am sure it doesn't stop there. Those two are just the tip of the iceburg.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if their chums, you know the old managers club, had the exact same thought process. The type that gang around and attack Arsene Wenger so blatantly.

I would have loved if their topic of conversation was Arsene Wenger instead of the poor Lineswoman (is that what you call her?) All my paranoia would have been eased. A little.

In all honesty I have never really had a problem with Andy Gray, I have actually enjoyed his commentary and adds personality. He has never really struck me as anti Arsenal or anti Wenger but his trusty sidekick Richard 'hairy hands' Keys, well he angers me immensely.

I know what's coming. It has just clicked. Richard Keys has resigned from Sky and will then join Talk Sport. The most vile radio station in the world will get stronger and more powerful and even more vile.

I can picture his face, shaking his head on Sky Sports whilst talking about Wenger's x amount of red cards since being in charge of Arsenal. You utter pratt!

*Deep breath in..and exhale*

I feel pure and clean now, let me talk about the team and players that I love so dearly, I enjoy that much more.

I mentioned this in response to yesterday's Your Vision article, a must read I must say. I mentioned that it feels like Arsene and his players have found the magic formula. The balance between attacking and defending seems to have been mastered.

We were ripped to shreds by Manchester United at the Emirates last season and were caught badly on the break. You cannot imagine that being the case this time round. It seems like all the players know what their roles are.

You can imagine players like Aaron Ramsey, when fit and sharp coming in and playing Wilshere's role or even Cesc's role with Diaby playing as the second midfielder. We have so many players of top quality who can slot in and know what they have to do to help the team.

Bendtner is no wide man but he knows that he has to close down the full back in possession and track back if needed.

Many supporters have certain players who they are frustrated with. It appears that Bendtner and Denilson are two players who top the frustration list.

My golden rule is not to judge a player until he is match sharp, which means having a run of consecutive games. This applies with new signings, especially from another country. It is also the case for injured players.

Simply you cannot just come back into the first team from sitting on the bench and produce world class performances. It is the same for the favoured players like Robin Van Persie. It has taken him a good few months to get up to speed.

So remember that when Bendtner doesn't kill a pass dead or Denilson misplaces a pass behind his man.

We can already notice the difference in some players after the cup games. The defeat against Ipswich away and draw against Leeds at home in hindsight has been nothing but good for the squad in terms of fitness, form and confidence.

We are currently waiting to hear about what Carlos Vela will do. I hope he joins Bolton, it will be a good indication of what he wants from the rest of his career. If he chooses to go to Valencia then it doesn't really show his manager that he wants to knuckle down and develop into a player for Arsenal.

Obviously I would much rather go to Spain and ply my trade for a few months rather than Bolton but if it is for the benefit of his club then that is what he should do.

Anyway, that is just about that for now.

Back tomorrow.

Enjoyed the read but just have a quibble with the throwaway comment: h

'until he is match sharp, which means having a run of consecutive games'

    - unfortunately this is not practical because all teams need beating and to keep the likes of Bendtner and Arshavin and Denilson continually playing is not practical when there are others who are performing. Think ourselves lucky we were able to keep the Carling Cup rolling so there are at least a few games these guys can play.

    - I know its harsh but when you get the occasional chance you need to be ready somehow and take advantage otherwise ....criticism and more bench warming at best.

    Its a hard life!

Good article but please calm down before you do yourself some damage!! :D

Think the Neville incident highlights the Man Utd bias with our officials today.

On another note about Hansen, Lineaker and dull dull Shearer.......

Did you hear them going on about the dive Cesc took against Ipswich (and yes it was a dive)? They went on to say that is what foreign players have brought to our game. Am I therefore the only person who remembers the dive Rooney took at Old Trafford to end our unbeaten run. Mmmmmmm two things about this which means we have to ignore that one, A. He's English and B. He plays for Man Utd!!! They are scum just like Birmingham!!!

Hairy hands is gone.. At last.

I remember watching the Man city game, and as the match finished the first thing keys said, was:

"so, sagna off, thats 87000 red cards under wenger now"...

None of the fellow guests were even interested.. And you know why? because 1, keys is a twat, and 2, wenger has been at arsenal for frickin years, so its bound to be a lot of cards in that time..!!

I do agree with 99% of what you said there, very good. . . Apart from Denilson, who will NEVER be a decent midfielder for Arsenal.... EVER.

No drive, no determination, no forward pass, limited pace, and weak in the tackle.. And of course, little JW is a million times better than him and he is still only 9 yrs old.. ;-)

Couldn't agree more with what you wrote and how you wrote it.

It seems as if this year is a time when people get their just desserts.

I reckon Alan Brazil is another one of these Andy Gray types that will be chopped next.

What I find most frustrating is that I can accept Man Utd winning the title if they win on merit with a few slices of luck (most teams need that to win a title). But it's the additional help from the 'powers that be' which mean that it's always an unlevel playing field, i.e., phantom penalties, goals that aren't goals, refs not seeing certain things, opposition teams not fighting against them. At the end of the season, all these extras make a big difference.

Anyway, let's just beat those scummy Brummies next month and then move on to the rest of the trophies.

    Ya get me dough?!!

I agree completely with your post.

Fortunately, I don't live in England and don't suffer as much as local gooners do, from the media bias.

Have United always had referees' decisions in their favor or is it recent ? (I mean, was it like that in the 90's too ?).

You might be surprised to know just how many Gooners out there will write an article along these lines if they had the tools you have mate. It's beyond a joke now. Has been for years. I'm quietly hoping that with the dismissal of the Manure loving toe-rags Keys and Gray, somehow the Utd love-in will disappear from one and all and they can try taking on 11 committed fuckers and a c*** ref who is blatantly trying to make a win for your side as hard as it could possibly be. So much so that when he tells our capt to kick the ball back to the oppo 'keeper after one of the most bogus decisions you will ever see, he is told to go fuck himself!! Ha! That reaction from Cesc comes from years of having to deal with the shittest decisions you'll see any ref make. I read somewhere that there are 16 top-flight refs in the PL and 11 of them are from oop north. Can someone please confirm this to me coz, if true, that's completely fucked up too!! You don't wanna see me during Arsenal games - i go absolutely ballistic with the blatant injustice. Loool. I bet if you watch the Ipswich game back now, you'll spot about half a dozen clear fouls (at the very least) on our lads that Halsey just DID NOT want to give although HE KNEW they were fouls. Don't laugh or nothing though Gooners, they ALL do it, every game, no fail. It's cost us many times in the past and will continue to do so. Paranoia? Give me a fucking break! That's some shit Manure lovers made up (along with Arsene Whinger moaning again) to dismiss and sweep under the carpet cold hard facts!! True Gooners like me will NEVER forget what these cheating c***s have done over the past few years to my club.

  • dkgooner  - Denilson prejudice
    avatar
This is a typical comment by someone who is just totally blind and refuses to admit it when Denilson has a good game. He was strong and persistent and worked like a trojan against Ipswich. And was that a weak tackle that won the ball and set up the third goal?
I would suggest that you visit an optician but glasses don't help blind people. Blinded by knee-jerk prejudice.
I had a thing about Fabianski being permanently useless at one point (I wasn't alone either) but the guy's proved us all wrong and has a fantastic season. I tip my hat to him. Why can't the Denilson and Bendtner haters open their eyes? If you can't see the quality in how Bendtner took that goal on Tuesday, then there is no hope for you. Yes, it was a brilliant ball from Jack that opened their defence up but NB still had a lot to do and he did it with skill and ruthlessness.
    STFU the lot of you.
    That's my rant over.

    avatar
I have read your rant about McLeish's Blues being dirty thugs and other misdemeanours against Arsenal and openly laughed at your comments.
I admire the way Arsenal play open, free flowing football, trying to walk the ball into the net. Or even trying to find that perfect pass. So why do you think that the world is against you?
The downside to your game is that you cheat. Players dive to the ground as if they had been shot, your manager, (brilliant as he is), is blind to some of your own strong arm tactics and late challenges. Hence the 'same old Arsenal always cheating'.
We will give you a game at Wembley. Expectations from us will not be that we will win, but we will make you work hard and punish any errors that you do make.
    Will you win? Yes
Will you win the league? No
Will you earn a Champions League place? Yes
Will you beat Barcelona? Dream on!
  • MeanLean
    avatar
Birmingham City cheat far more than Arsenal.

Stamping on players is far worse than going down easily do you not agree?

I love all your predictions but the truth is you know nothing, just as I don't.

You may well beat us at Wembley, but you cannot say that we will not win the league or anything else at this stage.

You should look at someone like Ian Holloway and try and actually play the the game the right way. It doesn't require loads of money to do so, it takes a manager who will give it a go and try and beat teams the right way and not by foul means.

    Simple
  • Pete The Blue
    avatar
Excellent. Ian Holloway for next Arsenal Manager. Somehow I don't think so.

West Ham were without Obina last night for kicking out at Larsson.

Just be honest with yourself, all teams will do whatever they can get away with to win. I cannot say that any team deliberately goes out to kick people up in the air. Its just some players are too quick - defenders get there as soon as they can.
    Attackers dive in the box.
I would rather see someone genuinely try and play the ball than dive around like Van Persie and others do.

As a team you are my favourite cockneys but don't do yourselves down by moaning about others alot less capable than yourselves.

Great write up mean lean, you are writing what most gooners feel and think !
Call it paranoid or whatever but the bullshit decisons we get are laughable if it wasn't so F'd up.
Correct me if I'm wrong but did the ref not STOP the game the other night and give a drop ball cos he got in the way ?
Now hang on, I don't profess to know all the laws of the game but if the ball hits the ref during play then you just play on ? I want to know why he stopped the game I really do.

Another thing that annoys me is the way BBC / ITV / sky pundits HATE arsenal , I mean its so obvious its not funny, slags like jamie redknapp, keys etc look like they found a penny and lost a pound when arsenal get a result.

I mean aint you meant to at least act impartial ? THEY ARE ANNOYED AND UPSET when arsenal win , yet when Man Utd or chelsea get a result they are in the studio wanking each other off , chuffed to bits looking like the cats that got the cream purring supervatives about honest wayne rooney and about shit like he's a honest lad ...

Valid comments but even so, no player returning from injury can expect to be
    1/ match fit }
2/ match sharp} When playing their first premier league game.

Neither the reserves nor the CC or the FA Cup compare to the EPL. Its speed and intensity alone is a shock to the system of almost all who enter anew. Pick any team who've had a player out injured and watch the player gradually return to the EPL level they were at before incurring the injury, its not only Arsenal. But we normally play at a pace far higher than the other 19 which means its even more noticeable amongst our own. Wayward passes, lack of control and wrong choice of options are far more observable amid our usually technically gifted squad, than other less pure footballing sides.
  • richie  - Denilson & Bendtner
    avatar
    Well said DKG
I watched NB playing alongside Ade Bye Bye as no more than a kid. He was given so much stick by so many of our own that I felt ill reading the rubbish written. Nicky was a typical Arsenal player even then. Our own should've loved the fact that he didn't stop trying, and he really didn't! He might have missed chances1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 right up to chance 9 but he'd finally score on the 10th. Marvelous!
Bye Bye would try on chances 1,2,3,4,& 5 after that he'd give up and go into hiding. Bendtner wouldn't hide he'd still be calling for the ball when everybody else's heads were dropping. After he'd missed so many chances he never gave up. Give me a trier for the Arse all day everyday.

The Denilson haters can't see his potential just as they couldn't with NB. We all know our Song is the best defensive mid in the prem, but he does need an occassional rest, and "some of us" see the young Denilson as a very reasonable understudy, true young Jack has made giant strides this year making himself virtually irreplaceable, but in the game against Ipswich Denilson played well and the stats always back him up. I just don't get it! So what if he makes loads of sideways passes as long as the passes are complete we retain possession there for control which is what Arsene asks his player to do. Sure he's not the finished product but we have a whole squad of young ever improving players, give Denilson a chance to play enough games and he'll surprise the haters. Just as NB has. Just as you rightly say Fabianski has.
