My Vision

Written by Mean Lean on Friday, 25 March 2011 12:43

Good afternoon Arse world,

I have been missing over the last couple of days for various different reasons. None of those reasons have anything to do with the International break either and for once I am not being sarcastic.

I do not appear to have missed very much though. Every now and then I flicked onto Twitter to see what was going on and conversation was quite often about something completely different. Cricket, Rebecca Black and pretty much everything else apart from the Arsenal.

Much of the focus is on the Wales vs England match and it is one that I am actually looking forward to for a change. Those who have read my ramblings for a while now will know that the International scene is a little like general anesthetic to me, a little like kryptonite to Superman. They usually knock me out and make me fall asleep.

Watching Jack Wilshere vs Aaron Ramsey has certainly given me something to look forward to. Fabio Capello must feel like the average person having just won the lottery. He has had an upgrade from Gareth Barry to Jack Wilshere. Such a difference in class already at the tender age of 19.

Do you remember the hoards of people who were upset that Wenger did not buy Gareth Barry when he went to Manchester City? Luckily for us, we do not come from the Harry Redknapp and Rafa Benitez school of management, buying whoever comes available on the market. Although you do get the feeling that a section of supporters like the idea of buying new players just because they are new players and not for the players actual ability. I digress, as usual.

Stuart Pearce is having a blinking bubble bath if he is seriously considering picking Jack Wilshere for the U21 European Championships. Pearce has vowed to include the top players including Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll. With the latter it is not so much an issue as injury has robbed him of playing time during this season. Jack Wilshere is a different case, not only has he played almost a full season so far, he is in his first full year as an Arsenal starter. He will need the rest, will need to recharge his batteries.

It seems apparent that the likes of Pearce couldn't give a monkey's about the welfare of the players and as usual it is only about results. It seems to be a common theme in this country when it comes to younger players. I wouldn't be surprised if Pearce instructs Wilshere to whack it long to Carroll at every opportunity.

I am sure Arsene will be furious and will vent away but he could well be powerless.

On the weekend Jack Wilshere will be up against his club team mate Aaron Ramsey who has just been appointed as the captain of the Wales team *Stands up and claps emotionally*

At 20 years of age, having just returned from serious injury; being made captain is just astonishing and just highlights the quality the lad has, not just in terms of ability but also as a person. Before the announcement I remember reading a Welsh player's view on his team mates, I cannot remember who it was now but it was in a newspaper last week.

When speaking of Ramsey he said that his quality was obvious and that he wasn't afraid to speak his mind in the dressing room which I found very interesting at the time. Ramsey appears like an articulate guy, sensible and committed but he struck me as more of a shy kind of character. When you have players such as Craig Bellamy, James Collins, Danny Gabbidon etc in the dressing room, all with more caps and experience than he has then it just excites you. Well if it doesn't then it should. If it excites you in another way then I suggest calling your GP and sorting out your issues. Just don't do it here.

I found myself watching a few Ramsey You Tube moments the other day and I had almost forgotten how good this lad was. The mind failure is largely down to the rise of Wilshere and credit to him for such a fantastic first full season at Arsenal, but Ramsey scores goals and he will improve. I watched him bend in a free kick for his country and also back heal the ball to his team mate, take the return on his thigh and volley it past the keeper.

*Considers going on yet another dreamy ramble about the future midfield of Wilshere and Ramsey but decides against it*

We are continuously told that have no leadership in our squad and we do not have a captain but can that be true when you look at the facts. Samir Nasri will wear the captains armband for the French against Luxembourg. Tomas Rosicky is the captain of the Czech's. Thomas Vermaelen is capi of Belgium. Lets not forget Andrey Arshavin who is the Russian leader. Talk of Jack Wilshere also being a future captain for club and country and come up quite a few times in recent weeks.

It is an easy stick to beat us with and it just comes across as a little lazy. This is how it usually goes according to the media and some of the less optimistic support.

Arsenal victory = Weak opposition or opposition playing poorly.
Arsenal lose = Not wanting it enough, weak underbelly, lack of leadership, cannot defend, no plan B.

Unfortunately our position, or statistics are never compared to our rivals which I would say is a pretty good comparison this season in each individual season.

Going back to the captain's and leaders. I would be more than happy to see Robin Van Persie have the armband permanently, especially after his recent comments.

He has once again declared his love for Arsenal and does not want to go anywhere. I am not sure it sends out the correct message to team mates and to new players who join the club to have a captain that wants to go back to Barcelona whether that be as soon as possible or a few years down the line. Obviously removing the armband from Cesc would not be a clever thing to do to a guy who gives his all to the club regardless of where he wants to go eventually.

Van Persie has had a go at Barcelona and Chelsea for being moany little *beep!!!* what else could you possibly need as a captain?

Ok Smokey, I am off to consume some tasty lunch.

Back tomorrow.

Losing at home to Tottenham, exiting the UCL at knockout because we failed to win our group, losing to Birmingham in a FINAL,conceeding 4 goals against New Castle from 4 nil up, Losing to New Castle at home,Not getting a single shot on target (history says we are the only team to have done that in the competions history..maybe true or not..dont matter),Not taking advantage of opponent slips year in year out, Having to come back to draw with WBA,painfully slow attacking and counter attacking recently because Cesc,Theo are out, atrocious defending, rubbish back up...need I go on???

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE POSITIVES but too many negatives now.Nice to have Wishere coming through the ranks,RVP rediscovering his form,Ramsey back..yeah a few good things but too many bad things....

RVP should focus on the game.Talking talking talking should be done on the field.and to be honest with you, chelsea do not complain.barca are whiners and divers but Chelsea? No!!

Afterall, our manager whines and gives excuses after every loss.when clearly, for most part (not all the time) it comes down to us not killing teams off or not having the quality to do it.

So ML..once again your words are nicely strung together but still far away from reality.

    But who's reality is that?

It seems like your reality is to have a squad of world class players in every position, even three players down. All playing at their best in every game and to never lose form, passes and ultimately games.

We should have won our group in the CL, we should have beaten Birmingham City in the final.

Manchester United should not have lost 4-0 at West Ham in the same competition. Chelsea shouldn't have gone through an awful patch, losing game after game, especially after spending so much money.

Manchester City are nowhere near us after spending stupid amounts of money on big game players.

My point is no other teams are perfect, no other teams are playing on the same high expectations that you put on Arsenal.

Like you say 'There will always be positives' but please do not expect there to be no negatives. Not possible.

Funny you say that, I was just worrying about the same thing before reading your comment.

I am not asking for a squad of first class players but at the same time, to think that you are proud of our back up is worrying.no one is asking players to be at their best every game.just in case you didnt know you dont always have to be at your best to win games. but guess what?that is the exception.

Manure may have lost to West Ham 4-0 but they beat us with 7 defenders on the field.adds up for you eh?When you start to compare us,consider that at least they know what it means to win.unlike us!whats worse, they know how to play against us.its like they are always gauranteed a win when it comes to us.Evra had to make stupid comments about us.pity!

Chelsea went through an awfull patch after they won trophies.Do you know how many points is between us and chelsea after your 'darling world class backup players" failed to capitalize on united's lapses?go figure!

Manchester city dont have a plan. They only have the money.Oh!!!Do you know how much they spent to get Adam Johnson form Middlesborough after he had gone on his Watford loan?I bet you dont.We surely could have used a player like that.they sure didnt break the bank for him.

No other team is perfect..true..agreed but I'd imagine that,to win competitions, the perfections have to outnumber the imperfections.
I am a realist that is why I mentioned that the will always be negatives and positives. But if you really think you can win competitions with the current crop of players, the only person who might be needing a reality check will be our beloved Mean Lean.
Of all my 36 years of being a gooner,I have never seen such lack of spirit combined with such lack of ambition. There is a reason why Arsenal fans are crying now. There is no smoke without fire.We need men not boys. But it's always nice to have some men to point the boys in the right direction.
Sometimes people say if you dont like what is going on in the club you can move to another club. That is a little funny because the last time I checked I was an Arsenal supporter not a Wenger fan or Cesc fan or which ever individual is affiliated with arsenal.
I wont settle for second best.Arsenal does not deserve that.Wenger is not questioned. He does what he wants.that is unacceptable.Ambition is primary for a club of Arsenal's caliber.

MUK, agreed. We need a lot more anger and a lot less excuse making both in the club and from the fans. Time to front up. WE ARE ARSENAL FC SUPPORTERS. We are not Arsene Wenger supporters. 6 years, won nothing, 6 years of the same problems, 6 years of the same excuses. At what point do you say 'it ain't working, it's time for a change?'. It has to be reached at some point. Man City and Tottenham are getting stronger, Liverpool may improve as well, we never had a better chance to win something than this season. Assuming we don't what do you guys (ML, Ritchie et al) think? One more season? Two more, Forever?

Six years and won nothing..not even looking like we are working on bolstering the squad with real quality.Season in season out, same old problems.Arsenal does not deserve to be second best.
Some of us have been around for a long long time and we wont accept second best.Wenger has done a good job but footy is dynamic,so should he.

I don't need a trophee to class myself as an Arsenal Supporter I'm a Gooner win lose or draw. The question is we've come a very long way in the 14-15 years of our dear leaders reign. Now some people want to jump ship and return to playing like we used to under GG or his modern reincarnation Morinho. Some of us want a more British team to reflect their own views. Most of us are happy with the genaral direction of the revolution. You pays your money and takes your pick. If some people want to see a more Brittish orientated team we will be playing some soon watch the opposition.

Around a longtime? Your having a laugh Muk! In the 60's we didn't win anything. (17 years without a trophee) Then we bagged 3 in 18 months Next in 14 years 1 FA cup right in the middle before we got the CC (Littlewoods Cup back then). The above included was 7 cups in 10 years. Then we got 5 cups in 8 years before we moved. Its true we ain't won nothing since we moved. 6 years. But have we dropped to mid table? No? Ever been out of the top 4? Have we had the chance to win things? Yeah we were 10mins away from the biggest prize in Europe with10 men. Should we have won the CC recently? Are we in debt like Manu'er or do we have Sugar Daddies to buy us gifts like Chelski and Money City? Have we spent bundles like City or even like the Tiny Tots? And won nothing?
    Have we got great players?
