My Vision

Written by Mean Lean on Sunday, 19 June 2011 11:44

This is partly why at times I do not enjoy writing a blog during the off season, quite frankly some of the 'stories' are indeed off.

I can just about deal with continuous stories of Obafemi Martins, Sébastien Frey, Miguel Veloso to the new crop Gary Cahill, Scott Parker etc but when hacks start taking the Michael by linking us with people like Joey Barton, then you know someone is just out there to upset me on Fathers day.

I do not want to entertain the idea of that happening, so I will give it short shrift. Arsene Wenger likes to build an harmonious dressing room, he wants a squad of intelligent people who will work together as a group and learn from each other.

This is why he booted out Jens Lehmann when he did and contrary to popular belief, it was not because he made  few errors. Lehmann was slagging off Almunia left, right and center in the media so he had to go. Gallas was stripped of the captaincy and not offered a deal acceptable to the player to make him stay put because he publicly criticised the squad.

Joey Barton is a person who has put out cigarettes in team mates faces, has attacked team mates in training and he has been convicted twice on charges of violence. Unfortunately my blog does not have enough space to list the amount of offenses Barton has made over the years and quite frankly, I do not give a damn. Arsene Wenger is not buying Barton and if you respect Arsenal football club then you should not want that fool anywhere near our club.

I would rather finish fourth every season than win the league with Joey Barton infecting our squad with his presence. Arsenal football club is far more than trophies. It was not the reason why I fell in love with the club in the first place and is not the reason why I love the club so much today.

Anyway, back to reality. Of sorts.

Peter Hill-Wood has said that Barcelona have been in touch about Cesc but have not made a bid. Well that is great. Surely that is just a waste of fax paper or mobile phone credit.

I didn't really like the sound of this though.

"But he comes from Barcelona so it is understandable if he wanted to go back. However, they have not made an offer so far."

A far cry from the he is not for sale now piss off statement of last season. I much preferred Wenger's recent comments of how Cesc will be an Arsenal player for a very long time. Well something along those lines.

I don't believe that this story is over with. I suspect that Barcelona are playing games to try and push the price down while Arsenal do not want to drop below a certain amount. I hope that gap cannot be bridged from now to the start of the season. I would urge Barcelona to wrap up the deals of Sanchez and Rossi, perhaps try and buy Rooney while they are at it. Just because I think it will be good for them and nothing to do with leaving them skint a little longer.

I have yet to hear anything else about Gervinho today, so I will give you an exclusive. Arsenal Vision HQ report that a deal could be wrapped up in 48 hours. My trusty source Eddie Murphy with that piece of news.

Blackburn Rovers want to keep skipper Chris Samba at the club for at least another year. According to the Blackburn owner, Samba has ambition to play for Arsenal. At least the player has some sense but to be fair, you would have to be as thick as Joey Barton to want to stay at Blackburn Rovers over coming to Arsenal. No offense Blackburn Rovers supporters. Ok, perhaps that was a little offensive but I am sure you know where I am coming from.

I am still a little confused with the whole Samba thing to be honest. Being the somewhat sad individual that I am when it comes to my club, I decided to download a few Blackburn Rovers games via a torrent when it became clear that our interest was a little more than a rumour. Like I said yesterday, I do not pay too much attention to the opposition when we are playing them but I watched him closely.

He beat Carlton Cole in the air several times quite easily at times and that is great, that is obviously our weakness right now but let us not forget that we were the best team defensively in the league minus set pieces. When you watch Koscielny make tackle after tackle on the deck, stride away and find a red shirt, it is easy to see why.

When I watched Samba on the floor I cringed uncomfortably. He looks so awkward on the ball and when you consider that we have to play such a high line to compress the space in the opponents half of the pitch I worry about the negative side of Samba's influence to Arsenal. More often than not we play against teams who sit back and defend first and foremost. Samba will be defensively redundant unless he is subjected to a counter attack or a set piece. Now we know he is good at attacking the ball and winning headers but is he mobile enough to recover from a ball slipped down the side of him, trying to keep pace with the attacking player, win the ball and distribute it well? I am not comfortable with Squillaci doing that and I don't think I would be with Samba.

If we do sign him then I may just pull out my geek hat and compile a video of his strengths and weaknesses, giving examples of how and where those skills would or wouldn't fit in at Arsenal. Perhaps. Maybe.

Ok, I am going to indulge in some fathers day Sunday roast business. Get in!

Back tomorrow.

I absolutely agree about Barton. We may need some physically tough player competing with Song but that player is surely not Barton. We don't need another Gallas - Nasri situation. Now if we sign him, do we think Diaby (or Nasri himself who once criticised Barton) will move well with him ? I don't think so. His attitude is really bad and we don't need him anywhere near AFC. Regarding Cesc, well I always take PHW comments not very seriously. He loves giving controversial interviews and although this is not really controversial, it reads just a bit like he is inviting a bid from Barca

Sounds like Barton deal is serious ML. Whist I understand your comments fully, I don't necessarily share them 100% particularly about a 'harmonious squad' . A complacent squad yes, harmonious not sure. Anyway, what would your thoughts on Arsene be, if he went through with this?
  • Goona  - Too good to be true on Messrs Samba and Cahill
    avatar
In spite of all these media reports I'll bet we haven't even spoken to Samba we're so darn slow and the same goes for Cahill as Owen Coyle says Bolton have not received any offers for the player. And i'll also bet our stingy bank manager hasn't even opened his purse as he's probably still trying to get quality players on the cheap instead of making clubs an offer they can't refuse...sigh!

Will the gervinho expected transfer go through???? Quite honestly I have no confidence whatsoever in our manager if only he'd realise the more quality we buy we'll make more money in the long run and if he hasn't got the money then what's the use of Kronkoe owning the club if he ain't going to give us money we might as well have stayed how we were fellow Gooners........
  • Goona  - Barton Nooooooooooooooo!

Oh I forgot to mention please! please! please! not Barton! it completely spoiled fathers day for me and for Nasri who'll run even faster away from this club if this nightmare happens. Lets pray it's only paper talk!

We don't often agree on Arsenal related matters but I am with you on the complacent issues that the squad have at times when they really shoudln't. As for my thoughts, I would be very surprised if Wenger did go for him. Very very surprised but as a player wearing the badge and shirt I would have to search inside myself to try and support the player.

A very difficult task I am guessing.

I suppose you would have to hear the full interview in context and PHW does have a habbit of talking a little too much.

Arsenal need some tough guys. It's no use playing ballet movement soccer when the gunners get outmuscled in 50/50 situation.
Fight the the thugs with a thug like approach. Show the hatchet men the gunners are no pushovers. For this to happen,Wenger needs monsters like Samba.

I just want to make a single line comment... Bring in barton and send everyone else out or forget about barton and think about bringing other people... I don't care about cesc... Make nasri stay here...
  • Rotimi,Nigeria  - Arsenal too nice for Barton

"Arsenal football club is far more than trophies" i love that quotation. I just love this club. we will win trophies sooner or later.

Would be a class signing Barton. Was Newcastles best player last season. Proper English grit is what we need to win the league

Arsenal don't get outmuscled every game against a team from north of Birmingham but do concede goals from these teams strengths and don't score goals from their weaknesses. We defend set pieces poorly these 'agricultural' sides attack them very well, they sit in banks of 4 keeping space to a minimum we pass and move looking for space to open up. Start defending set pieces better and put some direct runners into the attack and Arsenal will beat Stoke every time. First requirement for Arsenal signings they must be good footballers secondly do they provide what the team is missing. Samba would be awful in our defense and Barton would be awful in our midfield Cahill could play in our defense very well as could Vertonghen.

You are a fu*king moron, learn how to COMMUNICATE you retarded fu*k.

Are you SO lazy that you cannot type "o" in the word 'compete'? "h" in the word 'what'? "r" in 'for' or even fu*king "e" (A FU*KING VOWEL!!) in 'the'?

Don't give your opinion, you are a moronic waste of space. Do not touch another keyboard, key pad, pen, pencil or even speak again.
  • Anfield 89  - Sign Barton

To be honest, i think that your comments about Barton are a reflection of the current Arsenal side. Weak and femine. Barton is exactly what we need. Tough, hard and take no prisoners. Some one who will speak them mind and fight for the team. Yes, his past is dodgy, but so was Ian Wright, so was Tony Adams. Tell me that they were not true great players who pulled on our shirts. I better your the type of bloke who think Denilson is a good player and they type of supporter who tell other fans to sit down at the ground

I've got to stick up a bit for ML here. What he says about Barton is totally justified. I understand his views fully. However, he MIGHT be what we need. I heard a commentator suggest that perhaps he could influence Jack a bit by telling him to avoid the mistakes he himself made. Far from convinced but maybe....
  • arsenal man  - barton, ok.
    avatar
If barton never had that level of an attitude problem, then he would be great for arsenal, but with his tempermant, don't think so. I don't think he would want to come to a continental club like arsenal anyway.
  • Zain Cannon  - No bloody way...Barton!
    avatar
The mention of that thug's name sends me into a rage....and the thought of him wearing my beloved shirt....*&^%^&&***&^*&**(((((^&&^&* NO!

I hope slow Samba is not our only target. That is all. :D
  • Zain Cannon  - Re CBs

We should never sign someone bc they can 'head well'...His all-round game must be strong, otherwise you'd have another Lescott in the team.

Remember the Lescott people were pleading with Wenger to sign? What a load of crap he turned out to be eh....and all for 25m. Dumb City.

Now there's a guy at Udinese called Zapata, who'll cost same price as Samba and comfortable on the ground and in the air...Excellent defender. Why Wenger is not after him is a mystery. Plus he's 24. No brainer.

I like Samba, he'd be good backup but not as a starter for me. We need him and another top class defender, in my humble opinion. :D
  • MeanLean

I am not doubting that Barton is a bad player, I am not even doubting that his type of player is something that we do not need. I am totally doubting the mans character and would not want him anywhere near our squad because of it.

People can defend him if they want, he is a Newcastle player who may move elsewhere but it won't be Arsenal so I couldn't really care less. I would only start to care if for some strange reason we bought him. *shudders*
  • MeanLean

I do think Denilson is a good player, a good player who is out of form and needs a move. Correct.

I do not tell people to sit down, I would rather more people got up and sung and encouraged our team. Incorrect there pal.
  • Mars  - Agree

I totally agree with What Mean Lean said about Joey Barton.
He is not the harmonious type of player Arsenal needs, he is more like a bomb in dress room than a solution to our defence midfielder. As a gooner I don't want he dressing in red and white. But Wenger's perspective with wanting to add the strength of midifield should be appriciated. Finnaly he got the point. Let's just wait and see.

Samba is a liability. He isn't actually that good in the air (see the goal he was at fault for vs Tottenham this season). He also has quite a few David James moments throuh bad judgement. £12million would be daylight robbery and fantastic business by Rovers.
  • MeanLean

I agree with you Pete. In some games his strength would be an advantage but I could see him getting done quite badly quite often with our high line

im sorry thats so outrageous. barton to pass down his wisdom to wilshere? i do not think arsene wenger has spent all his efforts and hard work to de-englify his english players from the english habbits so that some muppet comes in to destroy it all. wilshere is doing fine cause he is learing from peopel who view football as a sporting art and not a competition of thuggs in an arena to show who has the biggest c...ck....

keep that filthy nasty side of england away from our glorious arsenal please

arsenal is a beacon of light to all those who simply can not stand the barbaric and uncivilised approaches SOME english clubs choose to employ for their football.

please lets not return to the dark ages again ..

we have had dennis bergkamp play for us...what joey barton ???are you all mad?
