My Vision

Written by Mean Lean on Tuesday, 26 July 2011 12:35

The exit door at Ashburton Grove appears to be creaking open today as a number of registered Arsenal players appear to be emptying lockers, handing back training kits and saying goodbye to the tea lady.

One player who will be missed around the club will be that of Emmanuel Eboue who looks set for a £4m switch to Turkish club Galatasaray according to reports. Arsene Wenger had admitted that Eboue, along with Bendtner and Almunia were allowed to sort out their futures by seeking pastures new. I must admit. Wenger had me going for a moment when he said that Eboue was in London due to injury. I bought that one hook line and sinker. While I think Cesc's hammys were always a smokescreen but I really believed that Eboue would be sticking around.

I guess we should have seen it coming judging by his limited game time last season but I really liked the idea of keeping him around as a squad player. Mainly an attacking right back for those games against sides who sat back deep in their half. A couple of seasons ago, Arsene used Eboue in certain home games and that worked really well, I do not know the reason why that changed. While Eboue's versatility has been a big plus to him, I also think that it might be a reason why Arsene is prepared to let him go. The saying 'a Jack of all trades but a master of none' may seem a harsh label to pin on Eboue there may well be an element of truth behind it.

While Eboue is a gifted dribbler of the ball with plenty of pace and power his season playing on the right wing ended without a goal or assist to his name. At right full back he was defensively nowhere near as good as the man who replaced him at right back.

It explains Arsene's decision to play Carl Jenkinson as right back with what is likely to be our first choice defence so that when Sagna is out of action, Jenkinson can come in as deputy without needing much adjusting.

I expect Sagna to go back into the 'first team' at the Emirates cup on the weekend. If the Eboue deal does go through then I am going to miss the guy, a great person to have around the squad but obviously Wenger had cut him out of his plans last season so it is best for everyone if he moved on.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is also due to head out of the exit door. The talented forward is close to joining Championship team Ipswich Town as they look to replace Connor Wickham. You get the feeling that we have a player who could actually be good enough to be a first team player for years to come but the fight and desire are missing from his locker.

He was involved in our pre season last year and technically he did not look out of place at all. I really thought he would kick on after that and push his way into Wenger's plans. Wasn't it last season at some point Wenger was interviewed about him and spoke higher of him than I think he has anyone else. But he hinted that JET needed to want it more. We need the opposite of that and I think that has let us down in the past. We need fighters, we need natural winners like Wilshere, Vermaelen and Van Persie. We do not need players who will stroll around thinking they have all the talent in the world without the application.

I must say, having followed JET on twitter, I had lost a bit of respect for the lad. I didn't like some of what he has said even if it is none of my business. I just remember the famous words that a proper Gooner like David Rocastle had said.

Always remember who you are, what you are and Who you represent!

Like all Arsenal players who leave without bad circumstances, I wish him good luck but in this case, I think it is very much the right thing to do for both parties.

With Nicklas Bendtner and Manuel Almunia still putting the final touches on their departures I am expecting the movement to start happening the other way as soon as players are officially off our books.

In fact, I am expecting a flurry of late activity with new players coming in towards the end of the transfer window, even more so if either or both of Cesc and Nasri leave the club.

As players and managers keep saying, I am calm about our transfer situation. I expect many clubs to get busier as the transfer window comes to a close. Liverpool apart, I am not sure if many clubs have actually strengthened their squads so far. The Mancs have already lost the experience Van der Sar and Scholes whilst bringing in a 20 year old keeper and Ashley Young. Phil Jones is not first choice and probably not even ahead of Smalling so I don't see them being stronger so far. Chelsea and Manchester City are yet to show their hands properly so we as Arsenal fans should refrain from hysteria until the locks and bolts are shut on the transfer window.

Righty, right. Off to get on with what's left of this day.

Back tomorrow.

I'm totally distraught over Jay how can Arsenal get rid of there best youth/reserve player when the likes of Diaby, Rosicky, Chamakh are in the first team if given the chance would been better than all three put together? Really not too thrill with the actions of the AFC? WTF? Good luck JET :?:

AW's issue is that we are stuck to our 25 man squad and all the restrictions it comes with. We need players to leave before we can splurge our millions.

My worry is that for top talent that we need, managers will be saying the same as Wenger in as much as they have to set a deadline otherwise they will have no time to replace them. Buying squad players such as Bendtner, Denilson and Eboue is easy enough at any point of the window but very few clubs will release their stars at the last minute unless they already have a deal in place to buy a replacement.

Like you though ML, I'm still calm about our transfer situation. I think AW and IG know what needs to happen and will not allow our squad to become weaker. Ask me on August 25th onwards however and I expect some nerves will be creeping through.

That list is completely daft in trying to compare JET with.

He is a reserve player, not a 1st teamer. You NEED squad players and Chamakh did more than enough last seasin when he carried our atack when RvP was out. Diaby is light years ahead of JET.

Good luck to JET, wish him all the best

Will I be sad to see Eboue go? No not really, the only good thing I remember was his breakaway goal in the Champions league but apart from that, nothing much of note from him. He is mediocre at best.
JET is a different matter, put the application of Wilshere in there and you have a world beater. Unfortunately, he seems more interested in his everything but his football. Luckily for us AW doesn't court controversial players (Pennant and Anelka and now Bendtner come to mind) so he has to go. Hopefully the others like Afobe and Aneke see this as a warning. For all the talent you may have, if you don't apply it, you won't make it at The Arsenal.

ooooooooooo mmmmmmmmm gggggggggggggg sorry but wot is the point of a youth system if u dont giv them a go i have geard that wenger didnt like jet cos he was selficsh so if he had a chance to get messi the he would say no to him cos he dont pass that much the boy had som thing the we dont have and need at arsenal i am starting to loose the faith in wenger

    1) Comparing JET to Messi is laughable
    2) How can you honestly say that Wenger doesn't give youth a chance - Wilshere, Djourou, Fabregas, Gibbs, Walcott, Vela... ring any bells?. Are you in the same band of fans that have been shouting out about how Wenger needs to buy experienced players because "Project YOUTH" isn't working?

Seriously some fans just like to moan. You can't moan about Wenger signing & holding on to young players and then moan when he lets young players go.

JET is talented but too lazy to fit into the first team. He's a good player no doubt but not as hard working as the other strikers we have at our disposal . ebuoe is a jack of all trades as ML has pointed out but then we have cover in most positions so selling him isn't a bad deal seeing it as a good for both player and us. he's already 28 and needs to move on. Nasri i think will not go cesc, i doubt it as barca hv mentioned that (avg. player sanchez was their first choice and they haven't got the money to pay for cesc).

I know I've said it elsewhere, but what is interesting about letting JET go is that only Burnley and Ipswich seem to have been interested in him. Not even Cardiff, who got a good look at him last season, saw him as a bargain buy.
Think about that when you're running down Wenger and thinking you know better than him.

The highest level JET has performed is championship and even then he hasn't been amazing. When we sent Wilshere out on loan he became a key player for a good midtable premiership team JET wasn't a guaranteed starter for any of the championship teams he played for.If JET was going to be of use to us he would have to have become a key player for Cardiff. It makes me wonder about Lansbury, when he played for Norwich he usually had an impact but he wasn't a key player for them(although maybe he should have been). A player like Afobe who is just learning about senior professional football you don't expect him to become a key player for Huddersfield. Being rejected by Arsenal might be the best thing for JET if he needs to want it more, rejection has a funny way of doing that and I assume there is a buy back clause so that would explain the low fee

  • Ray  - What about the rest?

Hey, what about Diably, Rosicky and Squilacci?
    They should leave also.
  • richie  - AW wants to see that players want it

Tony your talking tosh! We at Arsenal have the youngest average squad age in the prem, because of Arsene Wenger. As so many fools who post on this site criticising Arsene Wenger because of his "failed youth project" will testify.

Arsene has given chances to so many young English players like Upson who didn't stay with us because he had no patience or ambition to stay and fight for his place. Still he like so many of the players who leave Arsenal hasn't done anything of note.
  • richie  - Never mind his gut karrbaa
    avatar
What about his Hips & Ass?
  • richie  - Jet must prove himself
    avatar
For Jet to be a success he can't just sit back and expect it to come him.
He must have enough ambition to fight for a place not just in the Arsenal 1st team but in any team that any manager gives him the chance to be in. As those of us who've been following Jet's progress will know he hasn't been an automatic choice for several championship managers, so as he's not forced his way into the1st teams in the lower leagues how can anyone expect AW to give him one of the precious 25 slots in our 1st team?

    I'll miss Eboue.

Squillacci you can make a case for him being let go, but unless we replace either Rosicky or Diaby or both with better players, then no.

I have no problem with his hips and ass but last season wasn't very good for him and he seemed a bit unintrested to me, and when I watched the cologne game I was surprised to see the gut and he really looked fat in my opinion. Hopefully I'm wrong that he has a great season mayne its like golf some guys play better when they are fat!
  • kev11  - fat? he looked trimmed
    avatar
you must be joking mate. AA23 looked way thinner than what he was last year. Last season was a bad one for him maybe bcoz russia missed out on the WC. this yr he has himself said that his target is a min 15 goals. Sure he'l be back to his best. Also wish wenger plays him behind the striker, if fab leaves, bcoz that's where he's at his best better than even money monger nasri

I expect theres a sell on clause as well. I think it's normally 50%.
