The Highbury Library animted promo v5 350x350

The move from Highbury to the Emirates stadium was a testing period for any Arsenal fan. The wage bill had to be slashed so we opened the doors open for some special players to walk out of. Recruitment was turned on it's head after the move, we focused on buying young players with resell value rather than spending the big bucks on proven talent, especially if the player was over 26 years of age.

Arsene, with his excellent eye for talent brought through some real gems such as Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Alex Hleb as well as other talents. We had to wait patiently for the squad to gell and develop together into a title competing squad but holding onto those players continued to proven too difficult for the club.

The large money elsewhere along with the improved chances of silverware became a regular fishing hook that we had to get used to.

Barcelona came in for Cesc, Manchester City lured Samir Nasri away just as he started to piece his game togeher. Robin van Persie also jumped the ship and joined Manchester United. We could not compete with the richer clubs and we suffered for it. Time and again we had to take backwards steps, bring in players who needed to adjust to our style of play and often the Premier League until the cycle would repeat itself. I mean it was almost certain that the top online betting sites would have us finishing outside the top four because of the constant changes every summer.

Since our new and improved commercial deals we have been able to keep hold of our best players, only Bacary Sagna ran down his contract and looked for a move.

But Arsenal are heading towards an important time when it comes to our squad. Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are coming towards the end of their contracts while Hector Bellerin has had plenty of admiring glances from Barcelona as well as a host of top European clubs. Mesut Ozil has broken the record for the most amount of created chances over the course of a season and finished the season as Arsenal's player of the season. I imagine his agent has had plenty of calls over the last few months from the likes of Pep Guardiola, Bayern Munich and several other big clubs. Alexis Sanchez showed his frustration a number of times towards the end of the last season and it is said that Juventus are very much interested in taking our wide striker off our hands.

We must show that times have changed, we are no longer than club who have to run a tight ship, we are now the club that can compete for the best players both at our club and in the transfer market.

The purchases of Granit Xhaka and likely Jamie Vardy will be good for our position in this game of cat and mouse. We are being aggressive and purposeful in our rebuilding of the squad and that will appeal to our to players. They will want to make steps forward not just financially but also on the pitch.

Let us make it a complete summer by securing the long term services of our better players.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
