The Highbury Library animted promo v5 350x350

Solid but unspectacular.

If Arsenal had gotten out of 2nd gear yesterday we might have scored 10, as it was we let Sunderland implode without really playing any good football at all. Once again the maestro ran the show, Cesc showed us why he is orgasmically good and the fallacy of a shit player ruining another one’s lifetime opportunity in a nothing game was exposed again. Poor Diaby will now miss out on the biggest night of his career and will join Ralph and "Zinedine" Cygan in watching the final from the sidelines. It was a terrible tackle but more rash than deliberate I felt. Wenger’s lack of cool has been all too evident in this tasty race for 4th place.

If I’m honest I don’t think we will make it, West Ham have spelled out their intentions clearly. They won’t be trying against Tottenham and nor will their first team be out. Spurs should walk it – although having watched their game on Sunday they look capable of bottling it. If only Bolton had scored…

Still let’s focus on our own house. The positives to take from yesterday are the return of Ashley Cole, the prowess of Eboue going forward and the fact that Song didn’t cost us a goal. The negatives are obviously the injury and the atrocious performance from Sol Campbell. Out jumped, out paced, out muscled and out thought – he may well raise his game for Barcelona but it will have to be raised by a good amount as he was one of the worst players on the pitch yesterday. I may be being harsh on him but you’ll all feel the same way if he costs us the CL final.

The first 20 minutes was much of a nothingness as Arsenal coasted through, passing it cohesively (except Song of course) and generally not doing much. The game came to life when Henry whipped in a beautiful free kick, Diaby challenged and the unfortunate Sunderland defence added another error to a Shakespearian list of a comedy of errors and put us in the lead. The next 14 minutes saw Henry decide to kill the game and his through ball to Cesc on the right hand side was perfection, without breaking stride the Spaniard lifted the ball to the keepers left, a very tidy finish as he was being fouled.

The final nail in Sunderland’s coffin came from a beautiful free kick from Henry. Spotting the one square foot he could place the ball into he curled it over the wall and back down into the bottom left of the net. Game over. Henry knew it as well and coasted through his remaining time on the pitch. Take notice Wayne, there’s no need to chase lost causes when the game’s over.

The second half saw the game die, I’ll be honest I was absolutely hammered and can only remember Van Persie missing a sitter – he needs a goal and I’m sure he’ll be back on fire. Let’s take the 3 points, rue the injury and hope Cole decides not to be a twat anymore and commit himself to Arsenal properly. I have to admit though, it was great seeing him playing again – I’d actually forgotten what it looked like it had been so long.

Everyone played a 7 apart from TH who gets an 8 and Sol who gets 3. It really was a nothing game, against the worst side in the league and Sol looked out of his depth. Very worrying.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
