The performance against Fulham was woeful, but I won’t go into that. I only saw the highlights, and the result has been discussed in depth on this and every other Arsenal site. Our attentions need to be turned back to the Champions League. The 2-0 win in the first leg has certainly made this match a bit more comfortable, but Twente didn’t look a terrible side and anything can happen. We can’t take this game lightly, all it takes is a deflected shot or something and suddenly we’re panicking. Need to put the tie to bed early. The 2-0 result flattered us a little, it wasn’t a great performance and we ended up scraping through a bit. This time there’s the added factor of the players being down after a bad defeat and the crowd maybe getting on the players backs if the performance continues to be poor. However, we’re favourites to qualify and I don’t see us messing this up with this much at stake.
The side might be weakened slightly. As I went to prepare the line up for this game, I realised just how thin our squad is. In an idiotic state I went to put Hoyte in as back up right back, and then realised what I was doing. I then went to put Traore in as back up left back. With Silvestre being both shite and permanently injured, we have no back up left back, and with Eboue now being a right midfielder and cover for central midfield, we no longer have a back up right back. As good as Sagna and Clichy are, injury to either and we’re shafted. I then briefly thought that Walcott and Nasri could be given a break. Then realised that there’s no one to cover for them either. Then I thought, central midfield, most important position in the team, must be some room for rotation there, right? Well, Song could come in, I suppose. Fabregas could be fit but there’s no point starting him in a tie which is pretty much won already. We might see a sub appearance.
Subs: Mannone, Toure, Gibbs, Ramsey, Fabregas, Wilshere, Adebayor.
