I am writing this somewhat on the late side today so I will keep it relatively short. The plan was to write this for lunchtime but I have had more important priorities thrown my way. I guess it's helped my day speed up thus not leaving me with a frustrating wait for the Arsenal match to kick off.
Our defensive injury issue has been the talk of the town but really this should not impact us tonight or even next week as Monreal and Chambers are short term problems. So while we are a right back down due to suspension and injury, we are still taking to the pitch this evening with three of our four first choice defenders. I will start panicking when Koscielny and Mertesacker are not available.
Borussia Dortmund have plenty of injury problems of their own which is heartening. Mikel Arteta and Kieran Gibbs will almost certainly come back into the team which will give the side a little more freshness. Freshening up the side is something that the boss will have to carefully consider. Against Manchester City on the weekend, the players gave a lot and it may well be a lot to press in the same manner a few days later, but on the flip side our draw with City was without question our most comprehensive performance of the season and Arsene will not want to lose that after struggling for weeks to get our attacking game clicking. Too many changes could well disrupt our game and I'm sure the manager does not want that.
Calum Chambers is a doubt due to sickness, Arsene said he is 50/50 to make the game. Arsene's other options are young Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Flamini. If Chambers doesn't make it I wouldn't be surprised to see him Flam as first replacement. Arsene tends to go with experience over youth even if that player is out of position. I hope I am wrong because I really like the look of Bellerin and think he would give the team much better width.
I can see Danny Welbeck moving down to the bench and Alexis starting as our centre forward. If Arsene makes that decision then he can include another player out wide who can keep the ball. So I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Santi come in for Welbeck maybe even Rosicky for Ramsey given his knock in the Wales game followed by a performance that was not at his usual very high standard.
I'd happily take a draw tonight and I hope we continue where we left off over the weekend. If we play well we will win games.
Come on you reds
Update: This is what happens when you post an article late without checking the news. Rumours have it that both Rosicky and Bellerin start the game
