The Highbury Library animted promo v5 350x350

Perception is a funny old thing isn’t it? I assumed our record at Anfield was horrific over the last few seasons when in fact we have come out on top for the most part.

Since 2010 we have lost only once, granted it was that horrible 5-1 spanking but aside from that we have managed 2 victories and 3 draws during that period. We should have turned at least one of those draws into another victory, that late Joe Allen goal still hurts.

So our last outing was all the way back in February 20th against non league Sutton United in the FA Cup, so the players should be well and truly recharged and ready for action. Some players did not even feature in that match against Sutton so I’d really like to see us play this one like a cup final.

While not playing in so long has it’s obvious benefits, Arsene seemed more concerned in his pre match presser about the downside of not playing football.

He said a number of times across both his press conference and his chat with the official site that the players lose the rhythm of playing matches. I think it’s especially the case when it comes to Arsene’s choreographed approach to football rather than the typical system based teams like Chelsea and Manchester United.

Liverpool’s 2017 form has been horrible. Full on down the toilet rubbish, whatever that means but you just know that it all goes out the window when it comes to facing us.

I worry about this game and I have done so ever since Liverpool lost at Leicester City last week, in fact way before that. I am pretty much ready to use my bet365 bonus code and bank on a home win, guess that would be win/win either way.

Liverpool’s strength? The high intensity press. Arsenal’s weakness? not being able to play our game against the press. The second half against Manchester City was about as bad as it gets from an Arsenal performance and we won’t want a repeat of that.

But what is the answer? We’ve not found an answer to it for a while now. I find it difficult to work out how much of that is an Arsenal issue or a typical build up from the back issue that all teams struggle with. Either way, we need to find some answers quickly and not find ourselves struggling to pass the ball quickly or properly due to not playing for 12 days or whatever it is, also continuing our bad habit of slow starts. We get this wrong in the first 25 minutes and we can find ourselves 2-0 down quite easily.

But, but! Arsene throws us a curve ball in his interview with Arsenal player. I don’t have the exact quote at hand but he said something about us needing to adapt our style a little. What does that involve exactly? Your guess is as good as mine (probably better)

Oh yeah I forgot to talk about the Mesut Ozil illness thing. He seems to have been ill a lot of late don’t you think?

Well anyway it appears that Mesut will not be available for selection this afternoon. Aaron Ramsey seems to be back though so if he is ready for selection then we could see a midfield trio of Xhaka, Coquelin and Ramsey.

Mean Lean’s Predicted Line Up:

I’m going for Giroud to start as a way of avoiding the Liverpool press, maybe we will play a little longer and try and start our build ups a little higher up the pitch maybe I’m playing too much Championship manager in my head who knows, but it will be very interesting to see how we go.

This is a bloody big game for both teams. The managers are under fire, the race for the top four is more difficult than ever before. Defeat at Anfield would be a body blow to the players and the manager but equally, victory against a top team away from home could see us win the rest of our games and pip Chelsea to the title on the last day of the season. And it could see us over come Bayern Munich with a crunching 7-0 home victory in midweek and win the CL in the most dramatic end of season run in display from a team in like everrrr!

Hopefully I will actually write the review of the game this time, I seem to only get around to writing previews and that’s weird.

Someone should hurry up and invent a machine that converts thoughts into well structured (unlike mine) articles, that way I’d be churning out content on the regular. Was going to say ‘regs’ but thought better of it.

Anyway waffle over, let’s hope we can win the big football match and make Arsenal fans temporarily happy.

We are due a big away victory aren’t we? No time like the present boys.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
