That feel good feeling seems to be coming back to Arsenal fans. This was a performance of old that Adams, Vieira, Petit and Overmars would have been proud of.
Although the Old Trafford display was more pleasing on the eye, I think that in alot of ways I prefer this game. I have become accustomed to watching us take the game to everyone we play home or away and we have been punished for that several times in the past.
Liverpool have a fantastic record at Anfield and to beat them at their own backyard you would have to be tactically perfect which of course we were.
Credit must go to Arsene Wenger who was the brains behind the operation. We sat back and defended as a team, worked hard and fought for every ball and when we could we passed the ball around quickly on the counter. Tomas Rosicky has lived in London for a few months now and he might have heard about the old London buses phrase. Well this is obviously the case with him scoring goals as well.
Not since that 30 yard strike against Hamburg has the little Czech international found the net for us. Not for the want of trying though. He has hit the woodwork several times and alot of opposition keepers have kept him out.
He will never be as prolific as Robert Pires but I think he will contribute more than he has until now. Hopefully his Anfield double will put him on the right track. His first was wonderfully taken. A little crafty floater over Dudek. It reminded me of Paul Merson 15 years ago.
When Rosicky added the second I jumped around punching the air with short waist height jabs. At first I thought it was breathtaking skill but on the replay I noticed that Liverpool defended like a pile of crap.
It was still nice to see us score a fat Frank type of strike from outside the box. Gilberto and Senderos were fantastic. The amount of headers out of the box from the young Swiss International was quite amazing.
Big Phil is looking to give Arsene a headache. William Gallas is soon fit enough for a first team return and his pace and experience is a must in our young side. Kolo Toure is obviously Kolo Toure so not much needed to be said about him. But what they do not have as a paring is ariel power. Senderos is a leader an organiser. He is a defender first and foremost and was born a defender. Toure, Eboue, Lauren, Djourou etc are players who were put at the back to make a team. Senderos is not comfortable on the ball and is prone to mistakes but with those negatives he has great strengths. Wenger has to somehow work 3 into 2.
Liverpool had alot of the ball but didn't really test Alumunia, who I must add didn't put a foot wrong. Kuyt pulled it back to 1-2. Henry didn't pick up his man and Kuyt headed in Crouch's flick on. Cue Liverpool pressure, we were fighting for our lives until Henry's solo bit of magic sealed the match. Hopefully we will see more of that as the season progresses. Next up Bolton at home.
