Van Persie returned to the Arsenal side and looked like he had never been away. With one eye firmly on Sundays clash against London rivals Chelsea Arsene had rested 9 of the players who lost away to Middlesborough over the weekend.

In came Lehmann for his first start since August, to be honest I thought I would never see the Germany playing in the red and white of Arsenal ever again. Was this a transfer window sneak preview for other clubs?

Diaby and Van Persie came back from injuries and both started the match in a 4-4-2 formation.

I was looking forward to watching how the Van Persie Bendtner partnership would develop over the 60-70 minutes or so that I assumed Van Persie would be on the pitch for. And I was impressed, albeit against inferior opposition.

It only took Robin Van Persie 3 minutes to introduce himself to the game. Van Persie took the ball inside their half and strode forward, he then played a wonderful perfectly weighted pass to the onrushing Theo Walcott who had been drafted back into the side for Eboue on the right wing but the youngster fired his shot wide of the keepers right hand post. It wasn't a rushed attempt from Walcott, it was the right idea but wrong execution. Had that gone in I would have gambled on Theo scoring at least a brace.

Van Persie looks as if he hasn't been away.

Theo had started the game very well and looked lively and dangerous whenever he was on the ball. On the 6th minute Walcott picked the ball up on the right and drove at the Bucharest defence, he beat 3 defenders at pace and lifted his shot over the bar, it would have been a super goal had he kept his effort down.

Arsenal's passing was much better than the previous 2 and a half matches previously. The triangles began appearing alot more frequently, midfield players were giving options to man on the ball alot earlier.

The first goal came on the 8th minute, Walcott fed Sagna who sent in a low curling cross into the box to which Diaby was first to meet it ahead of the defender, his long legs managed to get the ball under his spell and he side footed the ball into the side netting.

We were in total control, popping the ball around and being creative exactly what was missing in our recent away matches.

On 29 minutes Theo Walcott was at his explosive best. He picked the ball up on the edge of the right penalty area and glided past three defenders he got into a good position but snatched at his chance and dragged it well wide of the far post.

On 36 minutes, Van Persie had his first chance of the game, Walcott found the Dutchman just inside the area and he turned onto his stronger left foot and curled it just wide of the far post.

The second goal finally came in the 42nd minute and it was Van Persie who created it. After some great football Van Persie slid a pass into the stride of Bendtner who was getting better and better as the game went on. His first touch was spot on and he rode a challenge from a defender before sliding the ball into the far corner of the net

The second half began at a slower pace, maybe one and a half eyes were on the Chelsea game.

Diaby could have scored his second goal in the 53rd minute. We have missed the quality delivery from Van Persie from set pieces and it was his inswinger that landed on the head of Diaby but his flick floated past the far post.

Bendtner was clean through on goal in the 60th but Zapata came out and cleared the danger.

Nicklas Bendtner is looking more and more like a first team player. His first touch and ability to bring others into play are fantastic for a 19 year old. He wins the ball in the air better than any other Arsenal player. He needs to play more with Cesc and Hleb rather than Denilson and Walcott.

If Adebayor picks up an injury then he may well find it hard to get back into the Arsenal team. Bendtner will only get better with games. Bendtner will have to be patient, but we all know that he thinks he should be playing yesterday.

Van Persie was taken off on 64, he was replaced by Eduardo. Robin Van Persie will start against Chelsea. His technical ability will worry Terry and co.

4 minutes after Van Persie was taken off Sequa Bucharest pulled a goal back. substitute Zaharia headered a left wing cross over Jens Lehmann and into the net.

Diaby and Sagna were replaced by Diarra and Eboue on 68.

Steaua Bucharest pushed forward in search of an equaliser I thought this would allow us the space to get a third and kill the game but instead Steaua kept the pressure on and on 85 minutes Petre hit a strike that landed just wide of Lehmann's goal.

Diarra had a few long range strikes over the bar. 90% of the match was very comfortable and played in 2nd gear. It was important that Arsenal got back to passing the ball, it was important that Van Persie looked sharp and ready. So overall it was a good victory. It wasn't enough to put Arsenal at the top of the table as Sevilla beat Slavia Prague 3-0 but Arsene will make the players believe that they can beat any team in European football.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
