It is becoming more and more apparent that some of Arsenal's squad players aren't quite good enough. They're good players but not good enough to be in a team that wins the league. I think if you just had one or maybe two of them in the team we'd get away with it but when there are so many like today, we struggle a lot more.

To be fair, anybody missing the majority of the spine of their team plus others would struggle against a decent side on top of their game. Fabregas, Song, van Persie, Vermaelen and Walcott were all missing today and there's no shame in admitting that we missed them today. OK, Vermaelen's been missing for a while so you don't really count him as much as it wasn't the defensive side of things which were the problem today, it was the attacking side.

We missed the creativity and drive of Fabregas, the solidity and ball winning ability of Song, the goal threat and link up play of van Persie and the immense pace and finishing of Walcott today. The trouble is that players such as Denilson, Diaby and Bendtner came in for them today.

Bendtner I was praising the other day but his problem is that he is too hit and miss. He is the sort of player that when he's not scoring, he's not really any use which is not the case with someone like van Persie. But he can be very good and be a great impact player at times. I'm a season ticket holder at Everton and Tim Cahill is a player that notches a lot of goals for Everton, but in the games he doesn't score he's like a waste of a player as he isn't really doing anything else. Bendtner is like that.

Denilson ain't good enough. Simple as. He isn't strong enough, clever enough, brave or solid enough to be a good defensive midfielder. He isn't good enough in terms of creativity, passing or being a goal threat to be playing further forward. He just doesn't offer us anything.

Diaby's mind is too slow to play for a team like Arsenal, particularly in a game where Arsenal are chasing a goal and want be not- stop attacking. He neither has the passing ability or creativity to be in this team. I think it's time to move on for player's like Diaby and Denilson. I wouldn't sell Diaby as he can come in useful as back up to Song or in away games where you need to dig in and be physical. But Denilson has to go.

I'm still not sure about Rosicky. I still think he's a good player to have in your squad, not everyone can be as good as Fabregas, but he is a bit hit and miss too. He should have started today, or at least come on earlier than he did.

Marouane Chamakh concerns me a bit. He made a slight impact today but when push came to shove in an important game, neither him or Bendtner could fill in for van Persie and win us the game. His attitude stinks at times and he doesn't move enough in the build up play. He only seems to get interested when the ball is in the box. But he is a decent player and would be better when he has players like Fabregas and Walcott in the team with him, same for Bendtner to be fair.

Maybe I'm over-reacting and being a bit harsh on these players. Like I said, they would do better when there are more first choice players in the team, but they should have been able to step up between them today and deliver a win. Which brings me to my next beef...

Arsene Wenger's team selection. The man is a genius and knows more about football than me . But it is my opinion that he got it wrong today. Diaby and Denilson coming in for a home game against a team that are leaking goals and have lost their last four games doesn't make sense to me when you have Rosicky available and even Ramsey. Why Diaby wasn't hauled off earlier for Rosicky or why Rosicky didn't start instead of him today is beyond me. One thing you can never really criticise Wenger for is being too cautious in his team selection, but today he probably was. I can't imagine cautiousness was the reason behind his centre midfield selection today, but whatever it was, he got it wrong.

On the positive side, we drew. We didn't lose. And we are not out of the title race. This is just a minor setback. Nothing more. We could be jumping with delight come Tuesday night and going on about how brilliant Arsenal are. I hope Fabregas and Song are available and Barcelona suffering a couple of injuries would be a nice bonus too.

Hopefully, everyone can play with the heart, determination and quality of Jack Wilshere. As he was almost on his own in that department for spells of last Sunday and today.

Come on Arsenal!

Mean Lean's Response

A very frustrating afternoon today and it was clear that we missed the creative side of our team today. We were not fluent enough and it showed. That said, we scored a perfectly good goal and Arshavin was pushed clearly in the box.

I am saving my wrath for the officials on my review which I am doing my very best to write amongst all the rage and frustration I have inside of me right now.

As for certain players in our squad, I feel it is easy to write players off and condemn them to waste but we have to bare in mind that these players do not have the advantage of playing every week. I don't think Denilson is not in his best form right now but he probably hasn't played three consecutive games all season. It is the same with Diaby, Bendtner, Rosicky etc.

We saw what happened when Van Persie came back into the team, he was far from the Van Persie before his Carling cup final.

It is an unfortunate catch-22 because you do not want to play off form players regularly but they will not get to where they need to be without playing games.

Rosicky for example started the season in great form with Cesc out and that was because he played in pre season and had built up his fitness in pre season. A totally different version to the Carling cup final version.

Anyway, we have to deal with this and hope that a) we get our difference makers back and b) those who step in can find form and sharpish.

*Sigh*

it is down to the players now to pick us up,

this is not the right time to be over critical about certain player a or b.
we must stand by them, til the end of the season.

have we considered the fact regarding the formaton we are playing
game by game.TEAMS NOW KNOW HOW TO PLAY AGAINST US,
it is now up to the manager to try and work out alternative formations.

diaby, denislon and wishere...were out of place today,

bendtner, nasri, arshvin .....did not work going forward as expected.

our manager needs to re shuffle things a bit

    AGAINST BARCA:OUR MIDFIELD......DIABY ,WILSHERE,SONG.

    FORWARD:...NASRI,CESC,CHAMACK.

diaby must understand that he has to start using the one advantage he has ...his height. ..diaby pls get your game together and rise to the occassion.

OUR DEFENCE HAS BEEN SCRATCHED A LITTLE BIT BUT I DONT SEE THE REASON WHY THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE MOVED ON .

scezny is still quality, djorou needs to continue his march forward,Kos should believe .

OUR PLAYERS MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER ,ANY TEAM IS BEATABLE,
HE WHO WANTS IT MOST WILL CONQUER.

I am so tired of seeing posts that say " We need to get behind the team. We should not be critical. We should give the players a chance." ...Do me a bloody favour!!!
6 years ago Arsenal " SUPPORTERS" never even considered this way of thinking. We had CLASS players in every position. Now, we have PASSENGERS in almost every position....
DIABY, DENILSON, ROSICKNOTE, SQUILLACI, ALMUNIA, FABIANSKI, ARSHAVIN, BENDTNER.
These lightweights, and others, are being allowed by Wenger, to denigrate and devalue our club. It is painful to see these nobodies getting paid to just show up in an ARSENAL shirt.
WOEFUL, WOEFUL,WOEFUL.......Somebody needs to slap Wenger out of his WENGERBALL dream and get rid of the dross....pleeeeasee!!!!!

Is your suggestion not to get behind the team?
  • Domhuaille  - Thank you FIFA football manager

Mr.Daley........I understand your frustrations and we do need to kick some arse at Arsenal but to say that AW lets the players you fingered, denigrate and devalue the club is a step too far!
Diaby has never fully recovered from the crushing he took to his leg, Denilson is far too lackadaisical agreed but that's because he never plays. Rosicky is having a bad season and will probably leave on his own next year, Squillaci was always meant to be the 4th choice behind Vermaelen, Djourou, Kos so lets realize that he'll be gone next year as well. Almunia is our only backup but once Fabianski returns, he is another who'll depart in the summer. Arshavin has the 2nd highest assist rate in the EPL and can change games, just like Bendtner can. Arshavin may also go in the summer but Bendtner's best years are ahead of him!
AW knows what he is doing, even if you, in your supreme skill as a football Manager, disagrees. We, as supporters, are called to stna behind Arsenal but we can also criticize bad play and poor efforts..but we need to cheer them on, for better or worse!

stop hating on bendtner, he did nothing wrong yesterday. he is a class player but you all hate him because he is arrogant.
as for yesterday's match: FUCK YOU REF.

Time for reality check..I like the fact that you mentioned that 6 years ago Arsenal fans didnt think this way.So there!!There is no smoke without fire.A bunch of overrated players who think they are World beaters.Only God knows what will happen at New Camp.
We cant make one telling pass without Cesc...and Strikers cant hit the target to save their own life without RVP.absolute rubbish!

Always blaming refs because we make thing difficult for ourselves. If Arshavin had taken his chances,if Clichy and Sagna has gotten more crosses in ,if only there were players in the box when the crosses came in,if only we created enough chances we wouldnt be here crying about refs...we need to learn to show up when we need it most..case closed..suit case full of clothes!
Bendtner already thinks he is world class...OMG!!!wtf??
  • Man United KIlla  - Assumptions assumptions assumptions
    avatar
ML, you sure do have a way of drawing conclusions..who said not to get behind the team...i didnt see that in is comment
  • Man United KIlla  - fact!

And the record keeps playing again and again and again and again...

    1) Squad isn't good enough. After our first-11 we're very average.

    2) Still no tactical plan-B.

    3) Over-reliance on injury-prone players.

    4) Huge stubborness from the manager and massive reluctance to spend even a tad over the odds for what we need.

    5) Excuses, excuses, excuses.

    6) Number 1 club priority - profit.

im always an optimist and i have faith in wenfer and his players, however occassions were arsenal has to come out and win ...are not taken seriously by some players.

part of it i can accept as immaturity or stage fright, part of it i can excuse for form/injuries etc.

    BUT ....

out of the 11 players out there only clichy and wilshere and djourou were playing with an EGO.....

i admire wenger;s work and what he has done for the club and i hope that this year is the year that will give him a definite picture of which players he should keep and which to send home packing..at 22 -23 and already with 5-6 years experience at the club and the epl ..denilson should be playing with a rocket up his @rse ....at 30 y.o and with a chance to become a champion in epl arshavin should be the de facto cutting edge especially in the absense of cesc and theo and robin..nasri should learn to pass it to secure a goal rather than try and score from impossible angles. diabby should be able to imp[ose himself in matches, sagna must learn that when he runs down the right flank his crosses must find a team player and not just cross for the sake of crossing. bendtner needs to stop chewing gum when he plays as the effort in his jaws takes away whatever thinking ability his brain might possess.

ok i can accept the players minds are at the barcelona game and sometimes the manager cant do anything about that especially when the one player who understands the importance of the epl is only cesc fabregas and he is out. i can accpet that the disappointment from birmingham is still hanging in their heads. i can accept that the tenacity of song is missing. and i can accept that wenger saw this game as a game he could STEAL instead of facing it as a penultimate imortant pl game.

however ..... and as much as the loss of two points hurts him after the chelsa present...the refs disallowed another goal ( like 2-3 years ago with middlebro/adebayor) and there was a penalty on arshavin by bramble whihc of course the ref never saw.

yes we take our own eyes out at times but the officials of this country are down right embarassing for the alledged best league in the world. the linesmen only know to raise their flags when we score legitimate goals...when our player is pushed from behind by a defender the linesman sees nothing...its criminal but expected from the people who dont want to see a team of foreigners owning the epl title.

the question is what do we do as arsenal? where the hell is a club's representative to send a dossier to f.a and uefa about all these "human errors" ? why is the club not protecting the squad players and managers from the xenophobic habbits of the media and the refs who destroy our managers and players psychology? why is there no dein figure to set their pants on fire ? how long will arsenal continue to accept the "crimes" being done against them? and how long will it take the fans to form shield of protection to players and wenger and consequently our club ??
  • TL Gooner  - What is your point?
    avatar
Like ML says, are you saying we SHOULD criticise them and not get behind them?

Support the team, that's the best way. We'll get nowhere reminiscing about old times, times have changed.

Rosicky, Arshavin and Fabianski are good enough, Bendtner too.
