Let's try and look back on the positives this season rather than depressing ourselves about the negatives and the pain from the past season.
If we finish fourth it will be a massive disappointment, but I know we are so close to being the best. If we finish three places off the top below Man City it won't look that way but this team is very close. I think there were two moments this season that have had a massive impact on the end of our season, the Carling Cup final and Bendtner's miss at Barcelona. If we'd have won the League Cup or beaten Barcelona on aggregate like we were incredibly close to doing (not that anyone outside Arsenal ever mentions this) then I think the last 2 and a half months would have panned out very differently.
Our team just needs one or two additions like Scott Parker and Chris Samba to jump to the next level, they will make us a better team, especially defensively. Also they will be two leaders in the team and will add more mental strength and ability to see out games and grind out wins especially in the run in when you need these sort of players to win you games. We will improve at defending set pieces too and I think that almost every aspect of our game (especially our weaknesses) will be improved because of them. That's why we should sign them.
So what were the positives? Despite how everyone likes to paint the doom and gloom picture when it comes to The Arsenal, there have been lots of positives and highlights this season. Here is a list of my highlights:
1. Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona
A terrific night, amazing atmosphere and probably the best night of my short time as an Arsenal fan. A late turn-around over one of the best teams on the planet and a team I hate because of their dis-respectful off- field comments about Arsenal and Fabregas. Also arguably the best performance of the season.
2. Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea
Another great night that broke the whoodoo Chelsea and Man Utd had over us, a welcome win and maginificent performance, arguably better than the Barcelona performance. The timing of the goals made it even better as the 3-0 lead shortly after half time sent us into ecstasy. A great atmosphere too.
3. Tottenham 1-4 Arsenal (CC)
A nice bit of revenge on our bitter rivals and my first Arsenal win at SHL. And it made my first day at college the next day more enjoyable.
4. Man City 0-3 Arsenal
A game I was very nervous about and a game where class beat wealth. Very good performance and satisfying win that put us back into a good position in the title race.
5. Blackburn 1-2 Arsenal
A game I went to and sat in the Arsenal section and a very good, gritty and determined performance from the boys. And it was a more impressive win then as BR were a much better team under Allardyce. Sweet revenge for our late season defeat there last season where I was also attending.
6. Arsenal 1-0 Man Utd
A beautiful reprieve after a difficult 2 months as an Arsenal supporter. Always nice to get one over Man Utd and our first win over them since November 08. Another short whoodoo broken.
7. Everton 1-2 Arsenal
8. Arsenal 2-1 Fulham
After returning from Christmas shopping and listening to the radio anxiously I returned home, flicked on football focus and with a few minues left the in form Samir Nasri scored a delightful winning goal in a great christmassy win!
9. Arsenal 3-0 Ipswich
The win that sent us to the Carling Cup final with three very relieving second half goals.
10. Leeds 1-3 Arsenal
As a Leeds inhabitant this was a victory of pride against my locals, and one of special personal feeling to me.
I don't know if I've missed any there that should have been in the top ten, hold on, I've just realised I left out Villa 2-4 Arsenal, which would go just above Fulham and into 8th, as walking to the Everton game I checked my Dad's phone to find out Jack Wilshere had settled the win with a fourth goal. A very good win with some good goals that saw us move top. Oh and the Newcastle away 4-0 win in the CC, I was there and a very enjoyable night and good win. I'll put that just ahead of the Ipswich win.
Soon, I'll talk about the positives of the squad, such as the emergence of Wilshere and Szczesny and the form of Nasri, Walcott and van Persie.
Mean Lean's Response
Thank you TL Gooner, reading your article actually brought back many good memories of the season just gone, memories that have been tucked away in our minds because of the awful end of season form.
Going through the games it also showed that we can beat any type of team in different situations. From beating a defensively minded Ipswich Town at home to beating the best attacking team in the world.
We are a very good side who had the quality to get into a title run in as well as getting into good positions in the domestic competitions. Unfortunately we are also more than capable of losing to all of the above teams and that is where Arsene will have to earn his corn this summer.
For the most part I have enjoyed the season, especially the post Manchester United defeat at Old Trafford until I would say our 1-0 victory against Stoke City at the Emirates. It went downhill very quickly after that.
This summer will be interesting and then once that is over and done with, regardless of who comes and goes, I shall be looking forward to pre season at Barnet as usual.

On our current two young keepers, I have the feeling that Fabianski is the better all round keeper of the two. Szczesny with all the hype is just not there yet. I feel Fabianski is better than him on the ground and at actually securing the ball and kicking it. I know Fabianski had a rough start, but his humble demeanor made him work hard and he actually started to show what he's made of before the injury sets in. I am not saying Szczesny is a bad keeper, but I believe Fab is a better all round keeper and more likely to make a save in dangerous areas than Szczesny. Fabianski has actually kept us in games and in the league on back to back performances before he got injured, i don't think Szczesny would have done the same in that position at least not at the moment.

Interesting point TrueGooner, I think a lot of people forgot about Fabianski when Szczesny came in, what with all the hype. He certainly had a excellent spell and looked like he has put his bad form and his regular mistakes out of his game, he was immense at Wolves and Everton especially. I think both of them are very good, I think the judgement on who should be 1st choice for Aug 13th should be based on how they do pre-season.

Fab is still having a bit of a hard time due to his performances before this season but I believe that he actually made the least mistakes out of all our keepers this season (not including Lehmann of course)
He was also outstanding in a few games such as Man City away, Wolves away, Chelsea away and a few more.
The slate will be wiped clean at pre season and may the best man win.

I don't think he said we only have ten highlights, those ten were his selection and unless you've decided to stop supporting Arsenal, he is your manager also.

MU Killer,
Isn't it about time u lightened up a bit and stopped having a go at any Arsenal fan that says anything positive about the club?
And yes, (thanks ML), those are MY 10 favourite highlights of the season- obviously there have been more than that as in all comps we probably won around 30 games.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion but everytime I write an article you just have a go at any hint of optimism that I portray.
So lighten up!

Am sorry TLG.I dont want you to think I am targetting you.Far from it.I like your articles believe me.Words of a true Gooner for most part. One of the first things I said at the start of this season was that we wont win a plastic cup with a squad like this.If ML is honest enough he will admit to this. The seasons massive disappointments still linger. Not so much as the many of this season's results but the way we arrived at the results is nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Time to lighten up huh?Mayhaps you are right...I guess I need to walk it off....

Aint no way in hell, that I will stop being a Gunner.I was a Gunner long before Wenger started his managing career let alone when he started managing The Arsenal....and Yes,you are right..unfortunately (will I ever say fortunately again?) he is my manager also

In my opinion, the thing to keep in mind with Arsenal's keepers is the immense differences between them. I can think of multiple times this season when Fabianski made me feel guilty for wanting to gut him after the 09-10 season. He has definitely made strides (I would guess most of them mental) but there is still a lack of command from him defensively. When Scescny started playing, you saw that vocalization wasn't a problem (although we were still a trainwreck when it came to defending free kicks and corners). They're both young, especially in keeper years, and would benefit heavily from an older head on staff. I'm not necessarily saying we NEED to buy a keeper, but perhaps keeping Jens on as a GK coach wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. Just my thoughts on it. Let's hope next season is more bearable.

The way we dropped points this year was indeed jaw dropping & RVP appart, the records set were not ones we'd want to remember
..i.e THE Newcastle draw & first home defeat to Spurs in god knows how long.
However, my seasons perspective, like the last & the one before that is
over all a positive one. I think the club is still in a period of transition & that Wengers policy is realistic & the right one at this time. It also takes into account that AFC is not as big a club as many fans seem to think. If any one thinks we can compete with Man U, Chelsea or Man City financially then they're deluded. We have to approach things differently & we've done that with style & successfully. Can things get better...of course, but to me for the size of club AFC actually are in reality, we are over achieving.
